AIMAA Scotland Interclub Championships
Mr Belgacem (looking extremely happy with himself), Mr Kirkwood and Ryan Kirkwood
Master Kirkwood hosted the first AIMAA Scotland Interclub Championship of the year on Sunday 14th March at Blantyre Sports Centre. This was an excellent AIMAA event which brought together all of the AIMAA Scotland schools for a day of competition, fun and excitement.

First on the floor were the black belts for patterns and sparring. Our School had an excellent start with Mrs Belgacem winning the black belt patterns division and Mr Belgacem placing third in the sparring division. Both Mr and Mrs Belgacem had the pleasure of competing against two of AIMAA Scotland's most talented competitiors in Mr Kirkwood and Miss Kirsty Gough. Mrs Belgacem performed an excellent pattern to pip Miss Gough to the title whilst Mr Belgacem had a great time sparring and competing again Mr Kirkwood, who is an excellent points fighter. Mr Belgacem eventually lost out to Mr Kirkwood but was able to win the third place fight off to take home a trophy.

After the adult black belt divisions were finished the tournament moved on to the junior patterns, starting with the low grades and working through the different belt levels. The junior students from Belgacem's School of Cho's Tae Kwon Do performed extremely well and came away with seven trophies! Liam Walker, Nathan Gunn, Daniel Rooney and Cameron Quinn all collected trophies in the individual section before Daniel, Nathan and Cameron joined forces in the team division to take first place!!
Once the patterns were completed the tournament moved on to the sparring sections. A special mention must be made to young Blair Lindsay from the Larkhall school. This was only Blairs second ever tournament and he came through a large section to take first place. Also, in the adult section, competing for the first time was Kinzie McMahon. Kinzie showed excellent speed to take first place in his division and impressed everyone watching with his budding skills. Cameron Quinn also added to his patterns trophy by coming in third in his junior sparring section.

Everyone at Belgacem's School of Cho's Tae Kwon Do wish to thank Master and Mrs Kirkwood for organising this event. The interclub championships are a real highlight within the AIMAA Scotland calender and the success of these tournament is due to the hard work and commitments made behind the scenes by our Master and National Secretary.
